- Solarwinds Orion - Network Monitoring Software
This software is a great tool for enterprise networks. Orion uses snmp traps to monitor your servers and network gear. You can monitor interfaces, memory, cpu, disk space etc..
Orion then puts all of this information on a website for easy review from just about anywhere. There are a bunch of default reports that you can use to determine what is happening across the entire network at a glance.
You can send emails and other alerts based off of a ton of different situations that occur on your network gear. There are a ton more features and I would highly recommend it.
Solarwinds Orion
- WhatsUp Professional - Network Monitoring Software
This software is another great tool for enterprise networks. Is has a lot of the same tools as solarwinds but at a cheaper price. This software doesn’t have as good of reports and trending as solarwinds
but what is does have over solarwinds is that you can monitor services not just snmp interfaces. So if you have a webserver and you want to get paged if the server stays up but the http service the server is providing stops get
this software. There is various services such as http,https,dns,smtp, etc you can watch. Another great feature this software has is on event is can do tasks like launch a batch file or program. Maybe http stops
working on the server and you want the program to do an iisreset. Another note on WhatUp is if you are unlucky enough to be running WhatsUp Gold upgrade as soon as you can. WhatsUp Pro is a night and day
difference from WhatsUp Gold.

This isn’t just a software package but a wireless protection solution. I have used this package in the past and it is a great product and it doesn’t break the bank. What you get with this package is a sensor or sensors depending on the area you need to cover, server software
to control and monitor these sensors and client software to control and monitor the whole system. The sensors will sit and monitor any A/B/G wireless
network. It will monitor any client connections or attempt on any AP in the area, it monitors and alerts on hundreds of wireless
network attacks. It will alert you when an unauthorized client tries to connect to a corporate access point and if an unauthorized access point
comes on air in your area. One of the coolest features is you can kill an AP in the area that you want, this system will keep any client
from connecting to the access point. This product does much more but these are a few highlights.

IIS logs… There is a ton of info stored in those logfiles that chew up your Hard drive. So what do you end up doing with
them… Deleting them or just disabling logs. How to get the info into a useful format is another problem. Well after doing
some research in the past I found that everything you could ever want from your log files a program called webtrends can do.
Great right…Until the initial sticker shock. The other day one of my co-workers ran across this program Web Log Suite
It has a lot of info and puts the info in a useful html report. The only downfall is
there are no alerts that can be setup, lets say all of a sudden a bunch of 404 errors are happening on your site it would be
nice to get an alert. Other than that it is a cheap tool that we are using to parse our logs that we store on our cheap NAS
storage.

is it supports SQL server for the backend database so you can write custom reports.
